Who are we?

The Security Services Employers Organisation was formed in October 1997, when six companies parted from another employers organisation, to enable them to effectively and professionally control their own destinies with regard to wage and other important labour related matters.

It is a fundamental principle of SSEO that negotiations and interaction will always be conducted within specific parameters of mandates agreed upon by a majority of its constituent members.

SSEO has, during the time since its formation grown by leaps and bounds and, despite a number of our members having merged into larger multinational companies, the membership figures have increased substantially.

SSEO members currently employ well in excess of 80,000 security officers, which has resulted in our organisation being able to act with authority in our dealings with the Department of Labour, the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), the Employment Conditions Commission (ECC) and the Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), amongst others.

SSEO makes use of its own members’ expertise and experience with regard to wage negotiations, legislative submissions and litigation, where matters of national industry interest are involved and have, to date, been more than successful in all such ventures and exercises.

The expertise, qualifications, practical knowledge and experience of the members of the Executive Committee of SSEO have established the structure for the success of this organisation and, by the periodic inclusion of new members to the Executive Committee on an ongoing basis, this has resulted in meaningful involvement and mentorship in developing new and improved expertise in the Private Security Industry.

SSEO has been a driving force in the establishment of the Security Industry Alliance (SIA), an umbrella body to represent the interests of the varied disciplines within the Private Security Industry, in all matters of mutual interest. SSEO members continue to hold key positions within the SIA management structures.
